On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, President Trump ordered new restrictions on asylum seekers at the Mexican, those restrictions include application fees, work permit restraints and cases in the already clogged immigration court be settled within 180 days. President Trump gave administration officials 90 days to draw up regulations that would carry out his orders.

President Trump said in a memo that the purpose of the new restrictions is to strengthen asylum procedures to safeguard the system against rampant abuse of the asylum process in the United States.
